First Fresh Ltd finalist in HB Export Awards

Three Gisborne companies have been named as finalists in the Export New Zealand ASB Hawke’s Bay Export Awards.

They are Pultron Composites, First Fresh and Cedenco.

Steve Breen, general manager of economic development for Activate Tairawhiti, said it was pleasing to help local exporters participate in the awards.

This is the first time Gisborne exporters have been eligible to participate.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to compare themselves to exporters from outside the region and it’s fantastic to see them come through so strongly into the finals,” said Mr Breen.

Award winners will be announced at a gala dinner at Napier Conference Centre on August 2 and will contest the ASB Exporter of The Year.

Acting Mayor Rehette Stoltz will attend the awards night.

“I am honoured to support them on the awards evening and I am confident that some awards will come home with us,” she said.

“Our local businesses are as always punching well above their weight. I am immensely proud of our three local nominees — all leaders in their field.”

The finalist are:

• Emerging Exporter: Rock-it Board, Starboard Bio, The Damson Collection, Woodcut Tools.

• Innovation in Export Award: Pultron Composites, Rock-it Board, Starboard Bio, Woodcut Tools.

• Best Medium to Large Exporter: Cedenco, First Fresh, Pultron Composites.

Winners will automatically progress to the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise International Business Awards in Auckland in November.

Export New Zealand Hawke’s Bay executive officer Amanda Liddle said she was delighted to see an increase in entries for the awards and high engagement from Gisborne exporters.

“They have embraced the opportunity.”

The head of the judging panel, Export New Zealand Hawke’s Bay chairman Alasdair MacLeod, said they had been impressed by the quality and diversity of the entries.

“We’re seeing a really great mix of smaller exporters who are well placed to scale and grow, combined with the large exporters who are making their mark on the world stage.”

All category winners go into the draw to win return flights to Rarotonga, courtesy of awards sponsor Jetstar.
